First Day of The Rest of My Life

Shares

Today is probably the happiest I’ve been in over 3 years.  No lie… it’s been that long.

You see, all I’ve ever wanted in my life was to be self employed.  From the thoughts of owning my own paintball shop in Florida at the age of 13, to the fascination of making money online which sparked around the age of 18.

Self employment to me is freedom.  The freedom and the finances to do what I want, when I want, with whom I want.

Just 4 days ago I put in my 2 weeks notice at work, with the intention of being fully self employed.  It still has not fully sunk in and still feels like a dream.  But today it appeared to be more of a reality than it ever has before.

You see I was self employed once before back in late 2010 and early 2011.  I was making a very comfortable income online and had the privilege of moving down to South Carolina with one of my best friends Tyler and his wife Emily.

While I was down there I ended up getting into some things that I shouldn’t have (will surely get into details in a later post), and I ended up running my business into the ground.

Oh you know... just frying up hamburger.

With a failed business and no source of income, I had no choice but to move back in with my parents.

I moved back up to Maryland in the second half of 2011, and into my parents basement.  I had already secured a job over the phone, and was back into the regular workforce only 8 hours after my return home.

That long drive home through the middle of the night, and returning to work that very day… is a span of time I will never forget.  Because it marks the beginning of a 3 year depression that is finally falling apart…

Today is the first day of the rest of my life, and this blog is somewhat a tribute to that.  An opening ceremony of some sort.

There are 3 main reasons in which I am starting this blog.

1. For my own personal development.  I have always wanted to change and grow, and I feel as if that is finally happening.  Keeping a collection of thoughts can be a fundamental part of that process.

It will also serve as a reminder for the places I’ve been and the things I’ve done as I begin to travel the world this fall (starting in Southeast Asia), and get lost in the relative flow of time.

2. For interested friends and family to follow me on my travels throughout the world.  I also hope that it will serve as a building block for those close to me, to help them to understand why I make the decisions I make and why I have the opinions that I have.

3. For others around the world, so that I can help those who are interested to learn exactly how I make an income online.  Which doubles as a secondary source of income for myself as I sell the knowledge I have obtained.

My current plan is to leave the confines of my parents basement in August.  Whether or not Bangkok, Thailand is my first stop… August should be the month in which my finances are substantial enough to begin my world travels.
